TESTIMONIES:

Helping the sick people of Ambon to fight sickness was a privilege, and it felt great to put a smile on their faces! - Bill

THE HOPE was hands down one of the best summer experience for me. Working together with the team to help those in need was unexpectedly enjoyable and definitely memorable :) Oh and the breathtaking view just makes it perfect. - Elizia

THE HOPE’s first medical mission trip made me as happy as it did the Ambonese people. Experiencing the culture of their community was irreplaceable. Seeing how welcoming the tight-knit community was towards our short stay was so inspiring and definitely made the tiresome days worth it. I feel that all who went grew much closer from the trip. An unexpected outcome was that all of us are now able to fall asleep literally anywhere (wooden church benches ftw). - Kelly

Giving and serving the Ambonese people were truly eyeopening and memorable experiences for all of us! Although the exhaustion may have been brutal for some of us, the people, the view, and the joy from serving our Christian family in need made it all worth while. I hope that our 3 days work made a significant impact in their lives, physically and spiritually. - Nathasya

THE HOPE’s medical trip to Ambon was truly remarkable. Not only did it make an immense impact on the Ambonese people, but it also exposed us to a whole new culture coming from a tiny part of Indonesia. Indeed it was the best mission trip ever! - Aurelia

THE HOPE was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. Although there were a few drawbacks during the trip (no signal, no hot water, etc.), it was worth it and taught me a lot of things that I would never have learnt here in Jakarta. It was a very memorable trip for all of us and I’m really grateful to have been able to serve the people there and to learn their culture. - Yemima

Being part of the Ambon trip really taught me to not take what I have for granted, starting from the most basic things, such as water to shower with. The people we served made up an amazing community who was more than welcoming and whose kindness was so inspiring (it’s not everyday you lose your phone in an angkot and gets it delivered back to your hotel around an hour later). Despite all the sweat and exhaustion, Ambon was one of the experiences I am extremely blessed to be a part of, and I surely hope that the mark we left on the Ambonese is as big a mark as the one they left on us. - Michiko

The mission trip to Ambon allowed me to learn and experience a totally different culture and at the same time forced me put of my comfort zone. It taught me how giving and serving is so much better than receiving and being served. The happiness I felt from serving in this medical mission trip is a gift that I wouldn’t exchange with (almost) anything else in the world. - Eltha

Ambon Manise! The opportunity to reach out to the people there was SWEET and amazing. It opened our mind about service and was truly a rewarding experience. All the handwork was paid off as well when we “tasted” the blissful Pantai Ora. Indonesia indeed has beautiful beaches like this one. - Pak Junaedy (Sponsor Teacher)

THE HOPE’s medical mission trip this summer was a really eyeopening experience. Other than giving me valuable learning experiences for my future as a doctor, it also gave opportunities to become a better human being. At the end of the trip we were rewarded with the crystal clear of waters of Pantai Ora. Snorkeling and collecting sea urchins was definitely worth the 7 hour trip from Ambon. - Leilani

Ambon trip 2k15 was hands down the most unique trip I’ve ever had. In that trip we shared laughter, compassion, friendships together which made me feel a part of a big family, full of hope. THE HOPE! - Clement

In my opinion this was the most successful mission-service-learning trip I've seen in my yeras at SPH, though actually it was not a school trip at all but independently organized by the students themselves. It was three days of sustained service. Tiring, but gratitude shown by the community was enough to make it all worth it. The students worked hard, took initiative, never complained, and made the best of every situation, focusing for example on the incredible beauty of the sea rather than the lack of cleanliness of the rooms. It was hard, but it was fun. And the chance to experience Indonesia outside Jakarta, and to work with the doctors, is something that will forever be valuable. - Mr. Eric (Sponsor Teacher)

The mission trip to Ambon was an experience I’ve never had before. Despite the three-day service work that enervated me, the positive energy, the friendly villagers, Pulau Ora, the breathtaking views and everything else compensated it. Glad I made the decision to go! - Diandra
